Nice! Ashly gear is manufactured right here in my hometown of Rochester, NY and it is top notch stuff. A friend of mine has worked there for many many years and has gotten me some nice deals.....Quote:

Putting up proven electronic theory as a counter to unverified subjective claims is not a pissing match. You may have missed the fact that I posted a link to an article re 6dB crossovers used in a system which included Altecs. The bulldust alert comment can be taken or left as can many comments on this forum. God forbid that this forum become a twitter style operation.

I also agree that this is an Altec board so I would like it to get back to that.
When the subject turns to speaker wire and parallel resistors sounding better than a single resistor, I lose interest in a hurry.
6dB crossovers on the other hand, well, if it sounds good to your ears, with Altec drivers, more power to you.
Jeff said straight out that he isn't a speaker guy......this is a speaker forum.
Keep the discussion there, fine with me. We can tell him about Altecs.
Sadly, I think if you can hear parallel resistors in cathode circuits, and parallel wire in speaker leads, your ears are probably just going the hear all of Altec's flaws, not their virtues.
Okay back to 6db xo's. A question.....is it a common practice using 6db xo's, to reverse polarity on one of the drivers in a 2-way system for a more accurate phase alignment?
I have used paralleled resistors on tube amp prototypes to get a suitable Rk power rating when I did not have the rated value at hand. I have to say I didn't notice any difference when I substituted the rated single resistor. I have not done this in a 6dB/decade network.
If you mean just a cap on a [super] tweeter, you use whichever polarity sounds best overall, though in phase would be the norm, otherwise you should always time align and wire in phase.Quote:

And to backup GM...do not think something that works with one set works with another. Reverse tweeter phase helps ONLY in SOME situations. It's WORSE in others.
